Where to Eat in San Miguel

A short, opinionated list of the places I actually book for friends, family & clients.

    A local's shortlist

San Miguel has more restaurants than it has parking spots, & most of the "top 10" lists you'll read online are copy-pasted from each other. This one isn't. These are the rooms I send people to when I have skin in the game: a first night in town, a closing dinner, a slow Sunday after a property tour. If you only have a few meals here, start with these.

Sabroso, restaurant in San Miguel de Allende

    Mexican contemporary

    Sabroso

Reliable, polished Mexican cooking in a setting that works for a first-time visit or a quiet client lunch. Order anything from the parrilla & ask for a table on the patio when the weather cooperates.

    First introductions, long lunches

Casa Nostra, restaurant in San Miguel de Allende

    Italian

    Casa Nostra

The pasta is made in-house & it shows. Small dining room, real wine list, the kind of place I send couples on their first night in town when they want comfort instead of fireworks.

    First night in town

Cumpanio, restaurant in San Miguel de Allende

    Bakery & all-day cafe

    Cumpanio

My default breakfast meeting. Wood-fired bread, proper espresso, eggs done well. Sit upstairs if you can, it stays quiet even when the ground floor fills up.

    Correo 29, Centro

    Breakfast meetings, light lunch

La Sirena Gorda, restaurant in San Miguel de Allende

    Seafood, casual

    La Sirena Gorda

Ceviche, tostadas, cold beer, no fuss. Good lunch stop on a walking day. Portions are honest & the salsas are real.

    Umarán 8, Centro

    Casual lunch between showings

Hecho en México, restaurant in San Miguel de Allende

    Mexican comfort food

    Hecho en México

Big menu, comfortable patio, dependable on a Sunday afternoon. A safe recommendation when guests want classic Mexican without thinking too hard about it.

Ancha de San Antonio 8, Centro

    Group lunches, families

Don Taco Tequila, restaurant in San Miguel de Allende

    Tacos & mezcal

    Don Taco Tequila

Tacos done with care & a tequila list that rewards a few extra minutes. Late-evening energy without crossing into rowdy.

    Hernández Macías 83, Centro

    Drinks before dinner, late bites

Luna de Queso, restaurant in San Miguel de Allende

    Cheese, charcuterie, wine

    Luna de Queso

Part shop, part wine bar. Build a board, order a glass, watch the afternoon slide by. The closest thing San Miguel has to a proper enoteca.

    Josefina Orozco 10, Centro

    Slow afternoons, picnic supplies
